Meine Fähre
Meine Fähre GmbH – information about the company and ferries
The ferry service Meine Fähre is a relatively new operator founded in 2021 and based on Norderney, specifically designed to complement the established Norden‑Frisia route. Since September 18, 2024, it has been running a dedicated Ro‑Ro double‑end ferry named Meine Fähre 1 between Norddeich and Norderney, offering a modern and independent alternative for both foot passengers and motorists. The vessel, built by GS Shipyards in the Netherlands and measuring approximately 50 m in length, accommodates up to 90 passengers and 27 vehicles, with a cargo (‘roro’) capacity equivalent to 120 tonnes.
This service was initiated by a consortium of local hoteliers and sponsors, aiming for a more agile, digitally driven travel experience. The service runs year‑round, with multiple daily departures that enhance flexibility and reduce dependency on the main operator, particularly beneficial during high demand periods.
Despite its ambitious launch, the "Meine Fähre" project reached an unexpected conclusion in early 2026. Following a period of significant financial strain caused by rising operational costs and the inability to secure new investment, the company filed for insolvency in March 2026. Although the service initially continued during the preliminary insolvency proceedings, the search for a new investor proved unsuccessful, leading to the final termination of all ferry operations on May 4, 2026. The vessel "Meine Fähre 1" completed its last regular crossing on the evening of May 3, marking the end of this independent alternative on the Norddeich–Norderney route.
