About

My name is Mark Prummel. Born and raised in a small town in the North of the Netherlands, close to Delfzijl and the Winschoterdiep in Hoogezand, the nursery of the Dutch coasters. Since 2002 photographing general cargo ships and ferries on the Wadden Sea. Later I moved to the Arnhem region, close to the rivers Rhine and Waal and specialised in the smaller sea river coasters heading for Duisburg. This interest in coasters on the rivers resulted in the start of 2010 in the website SeaRiverShips.eu. Nowadays my family and friends still lives in the North, so my camera and I are still frequent visitors of the Ems-region.
Unfortunately: this is not the largest website with shipphotos. No tankers, no containerships or bulkers. Only general cargo ships and Wadden ferries. Why? Because they have my interest. I’m not the photographer who’s standing every free hour along the river or in the harbors, just to make much possible photos from all passing ships and posting them on social media for much as possible likes.
Good weather conditons and the right angle are necessary for me. Exceptions to this are launches and transports from the shipyards to open water: the one-off events in the life course of a ship. In wintertime and with bad weather I’m spending my time better in the data, history and any information I can find about the ships. Especially the fleets of the Delfzijl and Groningen based shipping companies have in this my attention.
