Rederij Doeksen B.V. – information about the company and ferries
Rederij Doeksen was founded on July 1, 1908 by Gerrit Doeksen and his eldest sons Jan and Daan. Rederij Doeksen is a family business, founded by men who earned their living at sea with ships that were used as shell-suckers, towing and salvage ships along the northern coast of The Netherlands at the Waddenzee between Den Helder near the Northsea coast and the small island of Rottum near the German border.. On July 5, 1923, Rederij Doeksen took over the Terschellinger Stoomboot Maatschappij (TSM), including their three passengerferries “MINISTER KRAUS”, “PRINSES JULIANA” and “VLIELAND”.
From that moment on, Doeksen maintains the boat service between Terschelling, Vlieland and Harlingen. On November 8, 2008, in the year that Rederij Doeksen celebrates its centenary, Queen Beatrix is pleased to grant the Holding Company the designation ‘Royal’. From that moment on, it was referred to as Koninklijke Doeksen.
