11-07-1988: | On board the coaster “MARIA” of Van der Maas in Werkendam, lying in the lock at Brunsbüttel during a journey from Porsgrunn (Norway) to Duisburg, an explosion occurs in the cargo ferrosilicon. As a result, a passerby on shore is killed and the six people on board the “MARIA” are seriously injured. Four lock personnel and the crews of several yachts lying in the lock were also injured. The ship, the lockmaster’s office and five yachts are seriously damaged. |
