10-10-2022: | Forced to a standstill in the Mediterranean Sea near the Libyan city of Benghazi after inspectors spotted a deck load of BATT UMG armored all-terrain vehicles. The vehicles, intended for one of the warring parties in Libya, have been seized. According to the EU maritime mission IRINI, the cargo violates the current UN arms embargo on Libya. After the inspection, the “MEERDIJK” was sent to the French port city of Marseille where the illegal cargo was unloaded. Neither the crew nor the owners were fined or prosecuted by the European authorities after the discovery of the armored vehicles.
