According to the Wasserschutzpolizei, the drifting coaster had to deal with a rudder failure around four o’clock in the night. As a result it collided with the tanker. The ‘AMADEUS’ suffered a leak, causing 2,700 liters of gas oil to flow into the Rhine. This caused such a large oil slick on the water that the German authorities warned the city of Utrecht to stop extracting water from the Rhine for drinking water. Both ships were eventually able to continue their journey on their own engines.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
